Abstract

Most Japanese enterprises treat management philosophy and idea, among other resources, as the most important factor contributing to the success of their business .The importance of management philosophy is also highlighted in the following words made by the founding father of Matsushita Corporation, he once saidthe key success factors of management of course consist of many different aspects, yet no doubt the correct philosophy is the most important one.

Though business in Japan had generally suffered during the past two decades due to the bubble economy, most firms still sticked to the basic principle of: “Social responsibility of business” and periods. This paper then suggests that after careful study and critical selection we should benefit much from the essence Japanese management philosophy and practice.

Abstract

In Japan there have a lot of specialized research unit that carrying on many large-scale researches and profound case studies, especially they have actively tried to find out and develop the Japanese-Style Competency Model. Therefore, this reveals that the “Competency” is regarded as the important management technology and is paid much attention to it by the Japanese enterprise. Investigating the development of the Japanese-Style Competency Model is fairly helpful because it may provide valuable examples from which Taiwanese enterprises can learn something while developing the Competency Model. Hence, this paper reviewed and summarized several representing Japan's large-scale researches about the “Competency”. The main results of this study show that: (1) the Competency Model is regarded as the index system of a set of abilities, and the ultimate purpose of the Competency Model is to create the benchmark for enhancing employee's ability and achievement; (2) it requires considering the problem about the cultural difference when building and applying the Competency Model, Japan therefore has actively tried to build the Japanese-Style Competency Model in recent years; and (3) in 2004, the rate of having applied the Competency Model for bigger Japanese enterprise has already been up to 48.6%.

Abstract

This paper aims at exploring DPP’s statements about the prospect of Taiwan. Cautiously scrutinizing the statements about Taiwan prospect from “civilian self-determination of the prospect of Taiwan ,””civilian self-determination of Taiwan-state building,” “the sovereignty of Taiwan being de facto,” to “enacting constitution through referendum and justifying the name of Taiwan-state,” it is found that Democratic Progress Party has strategically fine-tuned its statements in stages along the line of domestically political upheavals and international tensions so as to justify its party beliefs and seize the ruling power. This paper also ends with an expectation that the ruling party could seek consensus-building with the opposition parties about the prospect of Taiwan through mutually-trusted communications and dialogues, so that they can act together not only to stand against China’s threats but also to persuade China understanding the importance of regional cooperation in the creation of Chinese well-being, upon the principle of respecting the sense of national dignity.

Undergraduate Student of Zhou Enlai School of Government, Nankai University.

Abstract:

Based on a survey of more than 1300 students at seven universities in Tianjin conducted in May 2005, this paper studies the impacts of the internet on Chinese college students’ political socialization. We find that they trust traditional media more than the internet. We assess the impacts of the frequencies of students surfing online upon different aspects of political socialization. High frequent surfers are more knowledgeable about current political affairs, but not so about general political knowledge that students have learned from textbooks. In terms of national loyalty, no significant difference is found among high and low frequent surfers. However, high frequent surfers are less congruous than others to the government and its current policies. High frequent surfers hold a more negative attitude toward political participation and its effectiveness, and show a sort of contempt over political right and responsibility.

A Two-echelon Inventory Model with Considering Buyer’s “Shift buying”

Chien-Chang Chou

Associate Professor, Department of International Trade, Ta Hwa Institute of Technology

ABSTRACT

In the past papers, some of the inventory models always assume the inventory systems are one-echelon. But in the real world the inventory systems are two-echelon. In addition, most of the inventory models proposed in the past papers always assume that there are only a single supplier and a single buyer in the inventory systems. But there are multiple suppliers in the actual inventory systems and the buyer will take the “shift buying” behavior while one supplier can not offer enough inventory quantity. Thus in this paper, we develop a two-echelon inventory model with considering buyer’s “shift buying”. Finally, this model is tested by a simple case and we find that suppliers could decrease the inventory quantity if buyers take “shift buying” behavior, and the higher the “shift buying” rate, the more the total profit in the inventory system.
