Abstract

Both Taiwan and Japan are surrounded by the sea. In geography, they are quite near. Their relationships in such areas as history, culture, trade, and so on are very close. Their close contacts in the sea area, however, have become important issues. For example the territorial dispute surrounding the Diaoyutais, the dispute over fishery, there are many other debates between both sides in the sea area. This paper focuses on the Provisional Jurisdictional Line in the East China Sea, and intends to analyze the debates on sea power between Japan and Taiwan. Firstly, this paper explains both the viewpoints of Japan and Taiwan in sea power. Secondly, it introduces the judicial decisions on the law of the sea and explains the debates between Japan and Taiwan in the sea area. Thirdly, it illustrates the blind points in the relationships between Japan and Taiwan and studies the solutions

Abstract

The global financial crisis sparked by the U.S. sub-prime loan problem is now posing a serious threat to global financial markets, with its severity intensifying as widening losses and a liquidity crunch push some financial institutions to the brink of failure. The U.S. seems to be falling victim to a debt spiral, in which market turmoil is aggravating deterioration in the real economy (Please see Chart 1). While Taiwan’s situation is not as critical as the situations menacing the U.S. and Europe, because Taiwan’s corporations and financial  institutions face not serious bank losses. Due to the sharp increase in global risk premiums since July, 2007,  Most of the capital markets in different countries, the financial crisis can no longer be dismissed as someone else’s problem.

Abstract

In order to keep technical competitive advantage, most companies have an ongoing need of competent technical professionals in research and development (R&D). To possess sufficient capable R&D technical professionals, companies must effectively help them to identify and to cultivate their competencies. Attempting to develop high-tech manpower quality indicators for R&D technical professionals of integrated circuit (IC) manufacturers in Taiwan, this study applied competency theory and investigated 709 valid respondents who are members of Taiwan Semiconductor Institute. The study results can serve as the groundwork for advanced studies in designing meaningful programs for training, development, and career planning, as well as for recruiting qualified R&D technical professionals.

Abstract:

This study employed DEA Window Analysis Model to assess the performances on competitiveness of 4 municipalities in China and 2 municipalities in Taiwan over 2001-2005. Sensitivity Analysis was applied to identify the individual input variable influences on these municipalities performances.

Our finding indicated thatthe overall performances poorly performed with an average efficiency score of 0.280. The well-performed municipality is Taipei City in Taiwan with an efficiency score of 0.983. 4 municipalities in China will have a long way to go and should promote employees in the field of service abilities. In the short term, China may provide employees with vocation trainings and educate employees with work skills in productive industry and services fields. In the long term, China should improve education policy and focus on upgrading employees in the field of service skills. In the future, Taipei should try to expand foreign capitals and find new ways to create more opportunities to maintain her competitive advantages.
