Abstract

This study aims to explore the development and the current profile of Japanese workers’ compensation system (including regulations, benefits and finance) for the reference of Taiwan’s policy reforms. The research method is primarily based on literature review by collecting information via the internet and journal database. The research findings suggest that the trend of the Japanese workers’ compensation system’s reform has transformed from the employer’s liability approach (based on the Lab our Standard Act) into the livelihood protection approach (based on social insurance). In addition, the types and extents of the latter’s benefits have exceeded the former and become the centre of the workers’ compensation system. Lastly, suggestions for Taiwan policymakers are as follows: 1. to establish an independent workers’ compensation act; 2. the contents regarding Employers’ Compensation from the Labour Standard Act should be integrated into the Labour Insurance’s occupational injuries’ benefits; 3. the worker’s coverage under the Labour Insurance should be based on their employed workers ; 4. the benefits for occupational injuries should be comprehensive; 5. the enterprise scale for qualifying occupational injuries’ experience rate should be downsized; 6. the gap of contribution rate for occupational injuries insurance should be increased.

Abstract

The main research method was content analysis and survey. The total questionnaires sent out 165 copies, and 150 effective surveys were used (94.5% return rate). The instruments included a personality trait scale, job satisfaction scale, and the demographic variables scale.

The results were tested using AMOS version 5, and SPSS 12.0 to analyze correlation, descriptive statistics, and regression analysis. The results indicated that most personality traits resulted in different job satisfaction levels, except the Neuroticism trait. Agreeableness has the highest score of (3.81), and the lowest score is neuroticism (2.60). Also, the younger generation PSR has more satisfaction on the job than older generation PSR. Higher educated people get higher job satisfaction.

The results provide some references for managers in understanding the personality traits of PSRs, and how these traits affect their job satisfaction. Furthermore, the moderator of demographics between personality traits and job satisfaction was also tested, but the results showed no difference when the moderator was added. The researchers found that extraversion has higher job satisfaction. The researchers suggest for the managers who wish to hire a PSR is to consider the personality traits differences in order to achieve higher job satisfaction. The researchers suggest that test the personality traits before hire a PSR.

abstract

TTQS (Taiwan Train Quali System) has been one of the important strategies for enhancing human resource development in Taiwan these years. For understanding the problems and causes of training's willing on individual business plan activity promoted by the Government, this study which designs the factors effecting enterprises to apply human resource individual plan including external environment, interior factors and apply process. The outcomes of this study find that the major factors of apply willing on effecting individual business plan are upgrading employee’s competence, the scores made by evaluating committees and governmental accounting process. This study also finds that the willing for businesses applying individual business plan is not effected by the timing of application. The economic prosperity has relative effect, but has no absolute effects on enterprise training. The businesses hope to upgrade employee’s competence and organizational competiveness by means of training. However, the enterprise training will effected by the governmental subsidy amount when the training scale has been enlarged.

Abstract

The study examined the TOEIC in academic and employment for learning environment, classroom structure, and satisfaction. TOEIC measures people English skill in the international working environment with industry, commerce, and business. Some colleges and universities also employ the TOEIC test as a tool for progress tracking, placement or program evaluation. The primary purpose of this study was to examine the non-experimental, quantitative, descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis, ANCOVA , Two-Way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis research design is to explore the relationship of learning environment and classroom structure for the student and employees’ satisfaction.

This study utilized three questionnaires and six background demographic characteristic. The three questionnaires were: a) Constructivist Learning Environment Survey (CLES) developed by Taylor and Fraser (1991); b) Students’ Perceptions of Classroom Structure Scale (SPECSS) developed by Church, Elliot, and Gable (2001); and c) Course Interaction, Structure, and Support (CISS) developed Johnson, Shaik, and Palma-Rivas (2000).

One hundred and thirty-five surveys were returned, a return rate was 90% and missing data was 9%. The result showed the TOEIC post-test has statistic significant than the TOEIC pre-test. However, There was no statistic significant between various occupation (business, educational, medical organizations) and TOEIC. Analysis of the research found significant relationship among learning environment (Student Negotiation, Shared Control, Uncertainty), classroom structure (Recognition, Evaluation), and satisfaction (Interaction, Structure, Support). In addition, there were significant explanatory variables with background demographic characteristics, learning environment, classroom structure, and satisfaction (Interaction, Structure, Support).

This study was limited to small number of the participants. Practical implication for the finding may might important to educational organizations, Taiwan government, companies, TOEIC test- takers, and other researchers. In future studies, the researcher should use MDS and MANOV, so the readers can easily to read the data and more dependent variables to be tested.

Abstract

In recent years Thailand’s economy has grown rapidly and Taiwanese-capital companies located in Thailand have played an extremely important role in this growth. Overall, the investment by Taiwanese-capital companies in Thailand represents the third highest amount among all foreign capital companies and the cases of Taiwanese business investment represent the second highest number of cases of foreign investment in Thailand. The importance of Taiwanese-capital companies to Thailand’s industrial development is apparent. Furthermore,Thailand based Taiwanese-capital companies faced with the competition of globalization lack developed human resources. This has already brought many pressures to bear on them. As the Ministry of Education in Taiwan has a policy initiative of encouraging Taiwan’s technological and vocational universities and colleges to advance academia-industry collaboration internationally in the Southeast Asian region, the ability of these universities and colleges to assist Taiwanese-capital companies in Thailand to enhance human resources is the issue of greatest concern to this study. This study first investigates issues related to Thailand’s industrial and human resource environments and then acquires a further understanding of the issues faced by Taiwanese-capital companies in Thailand under the existing industrial development strategies. Finally, assisted with the results of this study’s questionnaire survey of Taiwanese-capital companies in Thailand, this study determines the orientation of domestic technological and vocational universities and colleges in supporting Taiwanese-capital companies in Thailand increase their human resource requirements.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate if the operation performance of technology firm, with higher R&D input and patent output, would be better? First of all, this study employs panel data, including IC design, IC manufacturing, IC assembling, and IC testing industries, from 2001 to 2007 and develops empirical models, proposed by Färe, Grosskopf, Lindgren, & Roos (FGLR, 1989), to calculate the Malmquist index for evaluating the productivity of IC industry. In addition, the rates for Return-On-Invested-Capital (ROIC) are showed for evaluating the profitability. Finally, this study proposes a performance-matrix, integrated by Malmquist index and ROIC rate, to value changes of both productivity and profitability of Taiwan’s IC firms. The empirical results show that, firstly, the R&D density and patent output of IC design industry are in the first place. The profitability of IC design industry is also the best. The productivity and profitability of IC manufacturing are in the second place. The productivity of IC testing is in the third place but its profitability is in the last place. Secondly, the productivity and profitability of industry are getting better while it takes more R&D input. The influence of R&D input on industrial profitability is higher than industrial productivity, but it is not necessarily contributive to industrial operation performance.
